Ozlem Sorlu Thompson
I grew up in Istanbul, studied Biology and Botany, then started painting when I moved to the UK in 2015. Currently, I live in London, where Mondrian did his study.
My aesthetic is influenced by the creativity of the women in my family, like my Russian/Turkish grandmother who made colorful clothes, while her mother was a decorative cabinet painter. Moving from science to painting, my work began by combining scientific ideas, human feelings and pure imagination. I love Kandinsky and Mondrian, the literature of Orwell, Goethe and Hugo, who I listen to while I paint.
My goal is to use my inner positivity and wonder of the natural universe to create my canvases, bringing joy to my audience.
Exploring scientific concepts, a cell or entire ecosystems, microscopic or macroscopic, I hope to inspire people to connect with nature and our inner humanity and a better future as individuals through our feelings and actions.
